FUN FACT FRIDAY: Polk State Baseball's Long is the nation’s leader in strikeouts

At 6-foot-7 and 240 pounds, Long brings an intimidating presence to the mound. So far this season, the book has been every bit as good as its cover.

Nearing the midway point of conference play, Long currently leads the FCSAA and NJCAA with 64 strikeouts. The closer for Polk State and the FCSAA Fireman of the Year a season ago, Long's transition to the starting rotation has been seamless.

A sophomore from Madeira Beach, Long began the week with a sub-four ERA. In addition to leading the FCSAA in strikeouts, Long has been a workhorse on the mound. He also leads Polk State in innings pitched. Long looks to become the first Polk State player to lead the FCSAA in strikeouts since Pat Doudican in 2018.
