I love ballet and my bf loves opera and we go to shows all the time but he’s obv right. The met opera receives $200M in donations a year and they’re still underwater! He doesn’t want film to go the way of these forms where they have to rely on charity to stay solvent. I agree!
I watched “Hamnet” at a screening.
In just 126 minutes, it encapsulates all the sorrow, pain, loss, fear, love and joy, healing and hope found in life across all times and cultures. That beautiful final scene has the power to rewrite the history of cinema. It lays bare the miracle of movies. To be able to create something like this, Chloé Zhao must be a witch, or perhaps an angel.
