"The Invite" screenwriters Rashida Jones and Will McCormack are penning a "Tom and Jerry" movie for Warner Bros. Animation.
In their script, Tom and Jerry are each rescued by do-gooders who eventually fall in love. The cat and mouse then launch campaigns to destroy each other and the bond between their owners.
“Tom and Jerry do whatever they can to kill the other or to break up [their owners],” McCormack says. “It’s a rom-com in the style of ‘La La Land.’ Why are these characters fighting so much? Because they want to be seen, and they want to be loved. The logline of our film is literally ‘Love is worth fighting for.’”

i can’t get over how this movie is WELL DIRECTED the problem is the SCRIPT like the forced hatred of her was rooted in misogyny bc male directors have far worse on set behavior ignored and embraced tbh. this all pairs well with THE INVITE
@CaucasianOprah@Madmaddingcrowd You don’t even have the timeline correct FKA didn’t go public with her allegations until December of 2020 and Shia was fired in August 2020. Falling for spear campaigns is embarrassing,
After ‘Don’t Worry Darling,’ Olivia Wilde took a few years to rebuild herself and do some therapy. She read books by Eve Babitz and Carrie Fisher and started journaling. “I don’t think you know what you’re made of until you fall apart. I don’t trust anyone who hasn’t had their heart broken,” she says. “If you can push through the moment you have previously identified as the worst possible thing that could happen to you, whether that is divorce or the internet hating you or whatever, you are forged into something way better than you could have possibly imagined.”
Wilde hates that she didn’t directly, publicly acknowledge the negative buzz around ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ and her personal life. But this time around, Wilde has the upper hand. ‘The Invite,’ Wilde’s third feature film that she also starred in, sparked a 72-hour bidding war at Sundance. A24 eventually beat out big studios Warner Bros. and Netflix after reportedly forking over more than $12 million. The deal marked one of the festival’s largest sales, and she got what she wanted: a theatrical release.
With this film, Wilde isn’t out to prove anything to anyone. “I was scared,” she admits. “But I’m not Michael Jordan, going back on the court to break every record. If I’m like, ‘I’ll show you,’ I’m still trying to achieve success in your eyes, not mine.”

Olivia Wilde says the fact that "Don't Worry Darling" got a 38% Rotten Tomatoes score "liberated" her to make "The Invite":
“I believe in early failure. If you go through that, the way ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ did with a 38% on Rotten Tomatoes, there’s liberation.”

the invite totally knocked me out, i was actually sobbing by the end. the unspoken emotional burden of how hard it is to beg someone you love to find joy and passion in life is put on display in the film in a way that felt too relatable for me. brilliant stuff.
Got out of THE INVITE round 3 and by goodness it’s the best time to had with a crowd all year. As someone whose pet peeve is reaction shots as source of humor this is the one rom-com in recent memory that elevates tension, depth, and humor because of each one. Watch this space.
The Invite is incredible, like if Seth Rogen gave the most uncomfortably relatable performance of his life in a peak Mike Nichols movie. So fucking funny, Olivia Wilde directs the shit out of it, divorce rates are about to spike along the coasts. Ed Norton should play Larry Bird.
while everyone's enjoying The Invite, just a reminder that it's an Olivia Wilde's film. Not A24's, they bought it after the film was already made.
Kinda getting tired of this headlines...
@LaNoireDe I attended a screening where they spoke about their 25+ year friendship and it was really cool to hear about their collaborative process evolve
I was genuinely just thinking about how so many "boring" conversations between people are filmed nowadays with so much EDITING and no one caring enough to BLOCK these scenes anymore, and then here comes Olivia Wilde to smack me in the face. EASILY one of my top 3 of the year rn
