A menudo es más informativo comprobar de qué no habló Feijóo:

1) La palabra “pensiones” (o variaciones como “seguridad social”) no aparece nunca.

2) La palabra “fecundidad” (o variaciones) no aparece nunca.

3) La palabra “productividad” (o variaciones) no aparece nunca.

4) La expresión “déficit público” solo aparece una vez, al explicar por qué Rajoy se encontró en una situación complicada al llegar al gobierno.

5) Sobre vivienda solo dijo “¿Voy a derogar la legislación intervencionista de vivienda? Por supuesto.” y “Construimos un millón de viviendas. No tenga usted ninguna duda.”

6) Sobre inmigración, solo dijo: “¿Voy a derogar la política inmigratoria del Gobierno, desordenada, precipitada, que da derechos a lo que es ilegal? Por supuesto.”

Distintos lectores pueden ordenar estos seis problemas estructurales de España (pensiones, fecundidad, productividad, cuentas públicas, vivienda e inmigración) de manera diferente, pero es difícil argumentar que no sean los seis problemas fundamentales a los que nos enfrentamos a largo plazo. Sobre cuatro de ellos, Feijóo no dijo absolutamente nada. Sobre dos de ellos, dijo obviedades vacías.

Esta entrevista puede interpretarse de dos maneras.

Primera, que ya cerca de la Moncloa, Feijóo es reacio a dar armas al adversario explicando las reformas que quiere implementar.

Segunda, que Feijóo no piensa hacer nada serio con respecto a estos seis problemas.

Yo le doy mucha más probabilidad a la segunda interpretación. ¿Por qué? Porque el votante mediano del PP, relativamente mayor y con vivienda en propiedad, no quiere realmente que cambie nada:

1) En materia de pensiones, el votante mediano del PP quiere que el sistema se mantenga como está, porque es el principal beneficiario.

2) En fecundidad, al votante mediano del PP le importa poco el futuro demográfico de España, pues ya se habrá muerto cuando empiece a ser catastrófico.

3) En productividad, el votante mediano del PP pierde más con los costes de ajuste de la liberalización de mercados o las reformas estructurales en el corto plazo de lo que gana en bienestar en el largo plazo.

4) En déficit público, el votante mediano del PP pierde más con cualquier ajuste serio de las cuentas públicas (no, “cortar el despilfarro”, aun siendo necesario, no da para tanto; no se haga usted las cuentas del Gran Capitán que veo constantemente en X).

5) En vivienda, el votante mediano del PP es propietario de vivienda, y que esta suba de precio es su principal ganancia de riqueza. De hecho, “la legislación intervencionista” es un guiño para eliminar controles de alquileres, que, aun siendo una medida necesaria desde mi perspectiva, beneficia indudablemente a los propietarios.

6) En inmigración, el votante mediano del PP sale beneficiado gracias al flujo de caja fiscal positivo que generan los inmigrantes en el corto plazo, aunque su flujo de caja fiscal total sea negativo a largo plazo. Y muchos votantes del PP (pequeños y medianos empresarios) ganan con la presión a la baja de los salarios y el incremento del precio de la vivienda causados por la inmigraci��n.

A fin de cuentas, el votante mediano del PP quiere la misma política económica que ha seguido el PSOE (y el PP en iteraciones anteriores), quizás con impuestos sobre la renta ligeramente más bajos y menos corrupción “de los otros” (la corrupción de “los nuestros” siempre es lawfare).

Es particularmente revelador que en la entrevista le pregunten a Feijóo si no hará como Rajoy y, al final, no cambiará nada. Feijóo, que debía venir preparado para esta pregunta, responde que Rajoy llegaba en una situación de emergencia. Esta explicación se cae por sí sola: Montoro no presentó el presupuesto hasta después de las elecciones andaluzas del 25 de marzo de 2012. Para eso sí que había tiempo.

Como llevo insistiendo últimamente: la política es siempre sin romance. El gobierno del PP no cambiará nada sustancial porque el votante mediano del PP no quiere que nada sustancial cambie. Por eso el PP ha elegido como líder a Feijóo. Y por eso cosas como cambiar la ley electoral, el bálsamo de Fierabrás de muchos, no servirán para nada. El problema de España es que los políticos llevan 30 años siguiendo a la perfección lo que quiere el votante mediano.

As engineering, product, design, DS, etc. melt into a new kind of role, I was reflecting on what roles might look like in the future. For example, when I look at the Claude Code team I see what I think is five archetypes:

1. Prototyper: comes up with brand new ideas; churns out many ideas, most of which don't ship
2. Builder: quickly turns a prototype/idea into production-grade product/infra
3. Sweeper: cleans up the UI, simplifies the code and system, unships, optimizes performance
4. Grower: takes a product that has been built and iterates on it to improve Product-Market Fit
5. Maintainer: owns a mature system to make it secure, reliable, fast, and efficient as it scales

Many people span across 2 roles, and sometimes 3 roles. I also notice that these roles are not really tied to job function -- eg. across Anthropic, some designers match category 1, some 2, some 3; same for engineers, PM, DS.

A healthy team needs a mix of these, depending on the product:

- A product that is new and pre-PMF needs people that are strong at 1+2+3
- A product that is growing and has found PMF needs 2+3+4 and some 5
- A product that has strong PMF needs 3+4+5 and some 2

Maybe product roles of the future will look more like this, and less like the domain-specific roles of today?

whenever i’m feeling creatively stagnant, i listen to the 10th anniversary edition of random access memories by daft punk. they recorded a version of each song that reveals the behind the scenes riffing and conversation that went into each production, and it’s truly a masterpiece. the song ‘the writing of fragments of time’ i find particularly profound, because you are able to hear in real-time the moments where they have these breakthroughs talking to each other about specific lyrics and melodies, how they bounce ideas off each other with so much joy. there is such incredible soul, life and beauty captured in these songs, and to be able to hear the real life moments that went into their creation never fails to strike me with inspiration and deep gratitude for the creative process. highly recommend if you’re ever feeling stuck or needing a reminder of how awesome creating art is

my favorite one right now is this guy who built an AI system that listens for birds outside his apartment, figures out what species they are, and paints them on his wall.

here's how the whole thing works:

1. a cheap usb mic on his balcony listens for birdsong 24/7

2. BirdNET, Cornell's AI model trained on 6,000+ species, names each bird species from the sound alone (no camera needed)

3. every time it hears one, Gemini 2.5 Flash Image paints that exact bird in the style of an Edo-period japanese woodblock print

4. the new painting drops into a live collage of everything that's been singing outside in the last 24 hours

5. and it all shows up on a framed e-ink display on his wall that reads "heard today" like a little museum placard for his neighborhood

knowing which birds visit you used to take a field guide, a trained ear, plus years of patient practice.
