Driscoll on Monday sent shockwaves through the U.S. military, coming as it does amidst a spat between Driscoll and Hegseth over the latter's ideological purge at the Pentagon. The so-called "Secretary of War" has been removing highly experienced officers to pave the way for MAGA loyalists. He is making us weaker in pursuit of cheap partisan purity.

"This is in the middle of an illegal and reckless war that Donald Trump started for no reason," continued Yassamin Ansari. "And at the same time, the Army has nobody to be in charge of its military side either. Just like everything else he touches, Pete Hegseth has decimated leadership, not just at the Army, but in every branch of our armed forces."

"He is inexperienced, he is not qualified, and he has been a disastrous leader who has made us less safe and much worse off," she went on. "Pete Hegseth needs to be impeached. And not only does he need to be impeached, but he also needs to be tried for the crimes that he has committed in Iran, in the Caribbean, and across the world."

The mass murder that Hegseth has overseen in the Caribbean and Pacific should land him in prison for the rest of his life. Under his orders, the U.S. military has been slaughtering innocent people and claiming that they were drug smugglers. Even if they were trafficking narcotics, they should have been arrested and tried, not summarily executed. Recent reporting from The Intercept revealed that at least 227 civilians have been killed in the boat strikes in a "year of murders."

"I was proud to introduce articles of impeachment against Secretary Hegseth," added Ansari. "I urge my colleagues to join me in this effort, and I will continue to make this one of my top missions in Congress."

"Why do some British people dislike Donald Trump?"

A few things spring to mind. Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem. For instance, he has no class, no charm, no cool, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace — all qualities, funnily enough, which were generously bestowed on his predecessor, Mr Obama. So for us, the stark contrast throws Trump's limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief.

Plus, we like a laugh. And although Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty or even faintly amusing — not once, ever. I'm not saying that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, ever. And that fact is particularly disturbing to the British sensibility — for us, a lack of humour is almost inhuman. But with Trump, it's a fact. He doesn't even seem to understand what a joke is — his idea of a joke is a crude comment, an illiterate insult, a careless act of cruelty.

Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and never laughs; he only shouts or sneers. And the frightening thing is that he doesn't just speak in crude, witless insults — he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple, bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and reflexive insolence.

There is never any subtext of irony, complexity, nuance or depth. It's all surface. Some Americans may see this as refreshing directness. Well, we don't. We see it as an absence of an inner world, an absence of a soul.

And in Britain, we traditionally side with David, not Goliath. All our heroes are plucky underdogs: Robin Hood, Dick Whittington, Oliver Twist. Trump is neither plucky nor an underdog. He's the exact opposite. He's not even a spoiled rich kid or a greedy fat cat. He's more like a fat white slug. The Jabba the Hutt of privilege.

And worse, he is that most unforgivable of things to the British: a bully. Except, that is, when he's among bullies; then he suddenly transforms into a fawning sidekick. There are unspoken rules about this — the Queensberry rules of basic decency — and he breaks them all. He punches down, which a gentleman never should, would or could do, and every blow he lands is below the belt. He especially likes kicking the vulnerable or voiceless — and kicking them when they're already down.

So the fact that a significant minority — perhaps a third — of Americans watch what he does, listen to what he says, and then think, "Yeah, he seems like my kind of guy," is a matter of some confusion and no little distress to

When Canada walked away from the negotiating table with USA on the trade deals, I was a little surprised. When Pierre Poilievre and Doug Ford - 2 people who never agree with Mark Carney on ANYTHING - came out and vocally backed Carney on this, it got my attention. How bad could the deal be to where THOSE TWO would vocally back Carney?

If you ever see a midwit talking about how Canada should have taken the trade "deal" ( @DavidPollackUSA, someone nobody has ever accused of being intelligent, seems to be especially on this kick of late), here are some of the details of the terms of what the US demanded - which essentially amounted to making Canada a subservient nation-state instead of an independent country. And no, this isn't a joke - these were real demands.

-Canada would have to abandon speaking French in Quebec
-They would have had to follow the US in ANY TRADE WARS Trump started with any other nation
-They would have to open their borders to allow US tech companies to start putting datacenters all over their country
-They would have given the US VETO AUTHORITY over any other trade deal Canada wanted with any other country
-They would have required Canada to voluntarily bankrupt all of its dairy farmers by allowing US dairty to proliferate into Canada unfiltered
-They would have had to agree to standardize their fertilizer and pesticide standards to what the US does (Canada's regulations are more stringent, so they would have had to accept our pesticides that cause cancer)
-They would have had to surrender their sovereignty with regards to their minerals

And these are just a few of the highlights.

Trump's "deal" was essentially to strip Canada of its sovereignty. No wonder they walked away.

According to the NY Times article she was quoted in, “Once she was among 140 volunteer guides who gave tours in 10 languages to up to 400,000 people a year. Last week on her Monday shift, only five out of more than a dozen tour guides showed up, and only three people took a tour.”

"This place used to be really thriving and busy and crowded," the 87-year-old Weiswasser told the Times. "Now it's a black hole."

That's it. That's the offense. An elderly volunteer, describing what she's personally witnessed after decades of service, told a reporter the honest truth. Days later, the Kennedy Center's director of the volunteer program quietly announced a "temporary pause" on tours — the exact outcome three separate volunteers had privately worried about before the memo announcing the pause was even circulated, anticipating retaliation.

Petty vindictiveness is who Trump is. Not content with seizing control of one of America's most beloved cultural institutions, purging its board, and driving away artists who refused to perform under his takeover, he's now apparently willing to punish an entire volunteer program, silencing public access to the building itself, because one honest 87-year-old described what everyone can already see.

And remember, this is the same Kennedy Center Trump previously tried to shut down entirely for two years under the guise of "renovations," after his own name change proposal drove away performers in protest. His name was eventually scraped off the building's wall — and now the facade remains hidden under a massive tarp, a fittingly literal metaphor for an institution being suffocated from within.

America's national theater used to belong to everyone. Now it's become a monument to one man's ego and his intolerance for even the gentlest criticism, even from an 87-year-old grandmother simply telling visitors what she's seen with her own eyes.
