Shooting Investigation Underway on Wheeler Road SE

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Metropolitan Police Department detectives are investigating a shooting Sunday in Southeast Washington.

According to preliminary information, officers responded to the 4100 block of Wheeler Road Southeast for reports of a shooting.

The extent of the victim’s injuries has not been released, and authorities have not yet provided information regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Crime scene tape surrounded a portion of the shopping center as investigators collected evidence and canvassed the area for witnesses and surveillance footage.

The shooting occurred within walking distance of the 900 block of Barnaby Street Southeast, where a 15-year-old girl was fatally shot in an apparent accidental shooting less than 24 hours earlier.

No suspect information has been released at this time.

The investigation remains ongoing.
