My most fave part was my youth minister, who was actually a really great guy. Devoted, family man, and taught from the word. I know now, I was blessed to have him in my life.

Two new studies published in GSA’s journals #Geology and #GSABulletin are reshaping scientists’ understanding of earthquake hazards along the Seattle fault zone beneath Puget Sound.

The Geology study mapped submerged marine terraces beneath Puget Sound and found evidence that the massive ~M7.5 Seattle fault earthquake of 923 CE was likely the only earthquake of that size in at least the past 11,000 years.

The GSA Bulletin study identified evidence for multiple earthquakes on smaller secondary faults within the Seattle fault zone—including events as recent as the early 1800s. These smaller faults may rupture independently and recur roughly every ~350 years over the past ~2,500 years.

Together, the studies suggest that
• Catastrophic “megaquakes” on the main Seattle fault may be less frequent than previously estimated
• Smaller—but still dangerous—earthquakes may occur more often on secondary faults
• These secondary faults could play a larger role in seismic hazard than current models account for

He visited family in Chi over Christmas, started feeling sick & diagnosed with st4 colon cancer. He went back to Mex in hopes of being able to spend some final time with his parents. 🙏

Came upon this in a jewelry box & smiled. 6th grade. A marvelous thing about older age is how you develop compassion toward all your younger selves. I can look on that picture and think, oh man, look how sweet she was. Not all beaten up yet. And I can think on the years and disasters and abuses and failures and sins and fears she’d have ahead and think, Jesus loved me all along. Same is true of you. Give those younger persons you were a break. Life‘s hard. God never for one moment loved you less.
