@NotLikeTheCar@planetclarke I keep the tiny water bottles from airplanes to use on days out when I only want a small bag but want to have water for emergency/meds. It’s great if you live somewhere with safe tap water since you can refill it and drink immediately from any tap anywhere
@planetclarke My water bottle is 300ml so barely bigger. I have access to places to fill it up all through the day and can drink it immediately refill if I’m v thirsty. It’s a full glass of water which is as much as you would want in one time anyway. I don’t want to carry 1kg of water around
@AbeDrayton @strike_dr Yes, it’s unpaid overtime, being expected to do some work before or after officially clocking in, tip theft, not actually being paid the legal minimum wage, things of that nature
@inkysputter@polypocketknife I think this might be more of an American thing, in my experience it’s pretty normal all kind of young women don’t shave for all kinds of reasons in Europe. Hippy types, straight feminists, French people
@TempleofMercury@InternetH0F It wasn’t. This could maybe be true before 1700 when 90% of people were subsistence farmers. But by the 19th century rich ppl (with clothes with hundreds of buttons) were obsessed with hygiene/perfume and would wash daily with soap/water. Bigger issues: no deodorant or toothpaste
Crucial point, and this goes for the rest of the welfare state too. Should we be more concerned that not a single person "scams" the system or that not a single person falls through the cracks?
There's been so much disruption to research recently, but one thing I'm really *very* proud of is the completion of the first comprehensive, text-searchable Eric Hobsbawm Bibliography (https://t.co/x0bAly10PP). Here's a short thread about what it is and who made it happen... 1/n
