Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration honoring the day slavery ended in the USA. Although the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, it would take nearly two and a half years for the last remaining slaves in Galveston, Texas to be informed of their belated liberation.
HAPPY JUNETEENTH!
