I love the idea of using a notebook to keep in touch. I’ve used food to keep in touch. The taste of cheese toast reminds me of staying up till 3am in 2020. Orange scones remind me of being cavity free. Maybe I’ll switch to notebooks and give my stomach a bit of a break. #EH205

I find the part of the title before the colon to be the most interesting. The words “answer” and “persistent” give both weight and direction for the essay that encourages me to dive in and discover “How Can I l Live in New York.” 4/4

My issue with 2nd person is that the moment I, the reader, can’t relate, I am pulled out of the moment and feel a disconnect from the piece. 2nd person can be really immersive, but I find it has more drawbacks than 1st or 3rd. #EH205 1/4

I find myself drawn to the questions Goldman writes more than anything else. This is a moment where 2nd person serves the function beautifully. As I am forced to read these questions I find myself engaging with them more than other parts of the text. #EH205 3/4

I find Foster’s title to be perfectly crafted. The questions works as a hook, as the reader I want to learn why her as well. It also does a great job of humanizing her which ties into the major subject of her piece. #EH205 4/4

Foster’s use of 1st person really allows us to connect with her story. I feel as though I am in the room with her hearing this sorry first hand. This is also due to how vulnerable the writing is. She shares her strengths and flaws in a way that really humanize her. #EH205 1/4

One of my favorite parts of Fosters writing is her ability to bridge the opening and closing of her story. She repeats motifs, phrases, and ideas throughout the peace which communicates her intent and thought that was put into the piece. #EH205 2/4

I do find that “Imaginative Writing” is full of play, but I think Berry does a better job of making the play so that you don’t realize that you’ve done an exercise until it’s over. Maybe that will change as we get deeper into the text and the exercises become more nuanced. #EH205
