As the Liberals roll into a second week of rank political opportunism, it’s worth remembering this:
Tony Abbott quietly did a deal with an MP that allowed controversial rapid-fire shotguns into Australia.
The question is - who was the MP, and why the deal?
I found out. 👇

@BulwarkOnline The Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances (1994) signed by Ukraine, and the United States, inter alia, saw Ukraine agree to give up its nuclear weapons in exchange for security assurances and commitments to respect Ukraine's sovereignty, independence, and existing borders.
@Tal_Shiar_Degen@igorsushko Why would this meeting be seen as critical to Russia? It’s not like America will join their war or that Russia has any intention of ending it.
The only purpose here is to stroke Trumps ego.
PM Albanese fires back at Peter Stefanovic who says he’s had “more meetings Xi Jinping” than with Trump, reminding him Xi Jinping has been “in office for some time” & that the person who “had Xi Jinping address our national parliament here was Tony Abbott, for the record”🔥🤣
Dear Australian politicians,
Iran is not my enemy
China is not my enemy
Russia is not my enemy
Palestine is not my enemy
Yemen is not my enemy
Israel and The US pose the greatest threats to Australia and the world. And you f*kn know it.
What the Russians want is the complete destruction of life. In more than eleven years of Russia’s war against Ukraine, they have brought only one new thing to our land, the most widespread Russian “legacy”, ruins and death. We must continue resisting this. I thank everyone around the world who is helping.
The Russians are preparing to continue the war and are ignoring all peace proposals. They must be held accountable.
We are working to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence. We urgently need positive signals from the United States regarding air defence systems — we are still waiting for a response to our request to purchase systems that can help.
I thank the European countries for supplies. We must also achieve results in joint production of air defence systems and missiles, this is absolutely essential for our whole Europe. Only time separates us from that result, and what matters most is shortening that time.
Dept to gsp is low 25%, and interest payments are only 8% of govt expenditure, on cheap productive infrastructure debt building the state for the future.
Victoria invests 20% of its expenditure on infrastructure, vs 16%
ROI with economic returns, plus investment in community, mobility, and wellbeing.
@BikoKonstantin1@JohnNorgett Because Australia was at the brink of recession when the current government took the reins. Interest rates were almost 0, so nowhere to go there.
The hysteria around Victoria’s debt is nothing but hysteria from the partisan trash media & the Liberal Party. It’s all they have. The Vic Labor Govt has done more than any government in Victoria’s history, with no help from the former federal Liberal govt. Now we have a surplus!
