World GDP measured in Gold is now on its way to falling below the 1980 low.

In fiat terms, the world economy looks dramatically larger than it was 40–50 years ago.

But measure that same GDP in Gold, a monetary asset that cannot be printed, and much of that “growth” disappears.

That is the illusion created by nominal GDP.

Print more money.
Asset prices rise.
Wages rise nominally.
GDP rises nominally.
Debt rises even faster.
On paper, everyone becomes “richer.”
But against scarce real assets, the picture looks very different.
This doesn't mean the world produced nothing more than in 1980. Technology, productivity and actual output have clearly improved.
It means the enormous increase in nominal wealth is nowhere near the same thing as an enormous increase in real purchasing power.

And the people who benefited most were those who already owned assets.

Fiat inflated the numbers.
Asset owners captured the upside.
Savers watched purchasing power erode.
Wealth inequality widened.

World GDP measured in Gold is approaching levels last seen around 1980.

That chart tells you more about the monetary system than another record-high nominal GDP print ever will.

once they've collected their luggage they happily abandon their wheelchairs & start walking
