Glad to participate in the @ncccusa Christian Unity Gathering for multiple reasons, including seeing @sharonwatkins honored & thanked for multiple years & avenues of service.
From James Baldwin: We can disagree and still love each other unless your disagreement is rooted in my oppression and denial of my humanity and right to exist
Today's sermon (based on Micah 6:1-8) brought to attention King: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”
“We have forgotten that we belong to each other,” said Mother Teresa. Just imagine how remembering this would change policies, practices, and perspectives
The phrase “climate chqnge” is too tame. We are not experiencing mere climate change, we are living through a climate emergency that is direct and fairly immanent threat to the survival of God’s world @isclimatechange@ClimateReality@UNFCCC@WCCclimate
My last 2 newspaper columns have focused on the pragmatic challenges of love. A colleague reminded me of King's Strength to Love, which details his belief in "a divine, loving presence that binds all life."
“All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation” (2 Cor 5:18). This verse grabbed hold of me this morning, so I decised to share it.
Says Luke 24 — to follow Jesus means being “on the road” to new insights & discoveries; acknowledging you have a limited frame of reference; practicing hospitality for others; & understanding that this whole gig is inherently communal! We need each other. @Oikoumene@MECChurches
