🚨 BREAKING: Mason Greenwood will NO longer play for Manchester United.
United and Greenwood have mutually agreed that his future will be away from Manchester United following the conclusion of the club's internal investigation.
Thankful United have ultimately come to the correct decision.
From the Super League to Marko Arnautovic to Mason Greenwood, it proves the sheer power of this fanbase.
U-turn or not, serious questions must now be asked of those at the club who were comfortable with a return.
@Shadaya_Knight But the courts didn’t prove otherwise. He was not found innocent, charges were dropped. His accuser dropped charges because she wanted to continue a relationship. This happens in abusive cases all the time. Greenwood should never touch a football pitch again. #GreenwoodOut
A couple of observations, from a lawyer’s perspective:
He wasn’t cleared of all - or any - charges. The charges were dropped. So Greenwood’s statement, which I assume was agreed with the club, is misleading.
The club statement: “we have concluded that the material uploaded does not paint the full picture and that Mason did not commit the offenses [ic] for which he was originally charged”
Careful language - do they mean he may have committed other offences? And did they get advice from a criminal lawyer - because the reports all say it was the club’s general counsel who provided the legal input.
Finally - reports that there are “no plans” for him to return after a loan. This seems to be hedging bets.
It’s an odd situation. They seem to have been willing to reintegrate him but have now changed their minds. There is an acceptance he made ‘mistakes’ but what do they/does he mean?
If there is an alternative, innocent explanation for the information in the public domain the club could release it. If there isn’t, then why was the plan to reintegrate him?
BREAKING: Bob Bradley has made a "coach's decision" based on internal discussions that will see Federico Bernardeschi not in the squad for Toronto FC's match vs. DC United. His future at the club is apparently not in doubt & the expectation is he will be back in the mix next week
