Throwing the book at someone like this shows clear bias - a woman was about to lose a decade of her life because of an error and an partisan DA. Way to go Memphis!
BREAKING: Amy Weirich, the Republican DA of Shelby County (Memphis), has LOST re-election to reform-side Dem Steve Mulroy.
Weirich is the DA who prosecuted Pamela Moses, the Black woman who registered to vote erroneously & ended up with a 6-year sentence: https://t.co/2yBGfN9Koy
An off-duty cop pulls a gun on a civilian then allegedly covers it up with some help from his friends.
New DA is slow to investigate/prosecute and ironically accepted donations from the cop in question and his lawyer.

Someone facing a minor drug charge would have to sit in jail until trial because they don't have $100-$500 to post bail.
Meanwhile, a person facing 1st-degree murder charges who can post bail upwards of 1 million dollars will walk.

From 1980 until its peak in 2009, the total federal and state prison population of the United States climbed from roughly 330,000 to 1.6 million+ (according to @SentencingProj)
