Seven people have died in a horrific crash on the A66 near Middlesbrough.

The victims have been named as five young men Makai Saddington, 18; Michael Robert Cahill, 23; Jacob Matusiak, 23; Cole Robert Worthy, 16; and Theo Rae, 17, alongside two police officers, PC Matthew Blades, 37, and PC Tom Clough, 38.

Police say the Volkswagen Passat was spotted driving suspiciously and on the wrong side of the road. A pursuit was abandoned before a marked armed response vehicle, travelling correctly on the A66, collided with a car going in the wrong direction at around 3.39am.

Seven lives lost. A devastating tragedy.
