THRILLED to announce that I will be returning to the University of Toronto this September as Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology! The Prentice Lab will continue to explore mechanisms contributing to the development of diabetes. I’m coming home!!!! 👩🏼🔬🍾🥂❤️🇨🇦
Latest paper is online this month at @jlipidres! A perplexing observation with opposite phenotypes in vivo vs ex vivo led to an enhanced understanding of how secretion of hormonal FABP4 is regulated by sympathetic tone, independent of lipolysis
Recent work by @KaceyPrentice, and fellow researchers demonstrate that secretion of FABP4 from adipocytes can be induced through sympathetic signaling, providing important clues into metabolic health and disease. Congrats to all involved!

@StolfiAlberto Harvard’s “internal competition” consists of: Your name, your PI’s name, your department, and TWO SENTENCES describing what your proposal will be. Wildly out-of-touch is an understatement
@MesozoicMark Cannot like this enough. Also currently negotiating with Harvard to not take me take a pay cut for accepting a fellowship…while paying them for rent and parking
Postdoctoral students and academic researchers at the University of California said they will return to work on Monday after ratifying a new contract. But workers who help teach undergraduates and assign grades remain on strike. https://t.co/ORzWIGt09T
Accepting a fellowship should not punish the trainee!
Yet @harvardmed changes the status of postdocs, from “salary” to “stipend” when a postdoc becomes a fellow, resulting in a net loss of ~$3k/yr in compensation due to:
A new study from @sabriulkerctr by Kacey Prentice et al uncover yet another surprising mechanism of lipolysis-induced FABP4 secretion. In the absence adipocyte ATGL (ie no lipid breakdown), the brain can signal to promote secretion from fat cells.

Scientists have developed tattoos that change color in response to glucose, albumin, and pH levels. The new tech could let people with diabetes or kidney disease track and control their health without having to take frequent blood samples. https://t.co/WTuwxRWudm
Forced birth in a country with:
—No universal healthcare
—No universal childcare
—No paid family & medical leave
—One of the highest rates of maternal mortality among rich nations
This isn't about "life." It's about control.
A child at Robb Elementary repeatedly called 911 during the hour the gunman was inside, per press briefing just now. Gunshots could be heard over the line. "Please send the police now," the child asked.
@LifeLabs can we talk about your terrible customer service? Still waiting on a refund from December 2021. Multiple calls, hours on the phone, and still nothing? You’re shamelessly stealing from people who are trying to be responsible in a pandemic
