SYRIA: 7 ALAWITE CIVILIANS KILLED IN SUSPECTED SECTARIAN ATTACK NEAR HOMS

The Council of Syrian Components says a vehicle carrying engineers and workers was stopped near al-Houla in western rural Homs on Sept. 30.

Preliminary reports say the passengers’ identities were checked before they were shot.

Seven people were killed and four wounded. All of the victims were reportedly Alawites, most from the town of Fahil.

The perpetrators and motive have not yet been independently established, but the council says the circumstances raise serious concerns that the victims were targeted because of their identity.

The group is warning that sectarian killings, abductions and retaliation risk becoming normalized in Syria, and is calling for an independent investigation and international monitoring.

Israel should annex Lebanon up to the Litani and support it as a future independent Christian (but not exclusively Christian) state. Israel should do the same for southwest Syria as a state for Druze and other religious minorities, including Alawites.

This should be the model. In both examples Israel has a security interest and there are oppressed populations with promise who may benefit from an alliance.

You CANNOT protect minorities inside Muslim states from the outside. Nothing less than the above has a chance. New mini-state, with a regional power that has a geographic interest in supporting that state.
