When I was little I would often be sad that my birthday wasn’t the feast of any saint, so I’d pray before bed for God to give me a special saint. My parents thought it was silly.

Msgr Jeffrey Wald, Pastor of St. James Basilica in Jamestown, St. Mathias Church in Windsor and St. Margaret Mary Church in Buchanan, passed away Oct 27 in a Jamestown hospital due to COVID-19 complications. He was 56 years old. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Grown adults should not be throwing birthday parties for themselves. Exceptions can be made once you reach 100, but from 19-99 it is not impressive to simply exist for another year, nor should you be narcissistically and psychotically demanding that people celebrate it.
