The space is crowned by a richly decorated ceiling depicting the Battle of Lepanto in 1571, while Palazzo Colonna remains privately owned by the Colonna family to this day.

Phyllis Latour Doyle posed as a poor French farm girl selling soap on a bicycle. At checkpoints she smiled, asked harmless questions, and watched everything. Then she hid, built her radio, and sent the codes.

The codes were on silk, tucked in her hair ribbon. Once a soldier asked what it was. She pulled the ribbon out, shook her hair loose, and he waved her on.

In four months she sent 135 messages — more than any other female agent in occupied France.

When Paris was freed, she vanished again. Married. Moved to New Zealand. Raised a family. Almost no one knew.

France gave her the Légion d’honneur in 2014. She accepted it quietly.

She died in 2023 at 102.

No statues. Just lives saved because a young woman jumped anyway. 🌹
