It’s been a rough season with injuries. Our boys keep battling through adversity. They leave it all on the floor. League starts Wed,Hm Yosemite.
There’s nothing to lose by giving a student a second chance.
Nothing. Nada. Zilch.
There’s only the possibility of strengthening a relationship, demonstrating the power of empathy, and instilling a glimmer of hopeful recovery.
Relationships before rigor means that students will work harder for teachers they trust, feel connected to and know cares about them. Its the same for adults too.
Principals, you don't always have to hire the best to have the best. Just treat the staff you have like they're the best and they will prove you right most of the time.
When you look at a lesson plan, you will probably not see things like patience, and care, and support, and joy, and a sense of humor… yet these are some of the qualities that define great teachers.
Education isn’t a goal, and it isn’t a thing that kids obtain. It’s a process that should give young people hope and a sense of empowerment to create for themselves the future that they want.
When adjusting for inflation, Teachers wages have not increased in over 2 decades. This is unacceptable. Where are the politicians who campaigned on supporting teachers?
Effective Leadership really just begins with taking an interest in your teachers/staff, listening to them, caring for them, and helping them develop their talents. Much like what effective teachers do for students.
If you want to succeed with a difficult kid… you have to separate the attitude from the student. You don’t lower your standards, but you understand that there is always something motivating the behavior. Understanding leads to empathy… and empathy makes relationships possible.
We successfully brought back half of our seniors today! Had some unexpected company but our top flight security was up for the challenge. @abc & @NathalieABC30 just follow on Twitter and Instagram @goLHSHawks to keep up with our Hawks! #golhshawks#gvusdshares#stayoffmyzoom
I love the fact that every day we go to work, we can make a difference. Maybe not a big difference... but lots of little differences. And those add up.
We can support a colleague, connect with a kid, make someone smile... or their burden a little lighter. That can be tomorrow!
@SteeleThoughts Relationships help kids UNDERSTAND the rules and policies. JUST relying on rules and policy lends your school culture to be one of JUST compliance.
I don’t think teachers will be remembered primarily for their lessons. I think they will be remembered for their energy... and their attitude... and their relationships.
Lessons are important... but they don’t tell the entire story. The legacy of a teacher is more than that.
When people are excited about their work, people usually notice. It matters.
For example, most students notice when their teachers are passionate about teaching. And it usually affects their attitude towards their learning.
COVID changes some things... but not everything.
