Last week, my team gave me the most meaningful surprise: seeing my old Welsh teacher after 25 years.
When we moved to Wales, we received a Welsh welcome: Mr Thomas’ kind belief, a nation growing economically, a community whose confident identity wrapped around us so warmly.

Britain’s strength is our pragmatism: we know the choice is not more or less technology, the choice is whether Britain gets to shape it.
We are determined to shape AI with British values, in the British national interest 🇬🇧
To keep us safe on AI, we will test AI, we will harden our defences, we will convene the world, we will build in Britain and, yes, wherever needed, we will regulate.
We are focused on the British public’s concerns about AI. Is it safe? Is it shaped by us? Do we all get to benefit?
Great to speak to @BBCBreakfast about significant investments for safe AI that spreads opportunity.
7/7 And I want us to act, not just understand: we're also investing £30m in partnerships with Mayors to help local businesses adopt AI, create good jobs, and improve public services.
This @UKLabour government is determined to keep Britain safe, rebuild our industrial strength and ensure the benefits of AI reach every part of the country.

We are investing another £23m in the AI Economics Institute.
I want us to build the quickest sense of AI’s impact on productivity, jobs and living standards, so technological progress benefits working people.
A pleasure to welcome His Excellency @HCI_London and to talk through concrete steps in deepening the UK and India’s shared interest: AI that is driven by our values, focused on our public interest 🇬🇧🇮🇳

We can build trust in AI by building the technology right here in the UK.
Above all, we are committed to ensuring AI is developed safely and securely - capturing the immense opportunity while mitigating the risks to our national security.
