Belgium head coach Rudi Garcia says that US forward Folarin Balogun approached him after the final whistle.
"I told him it is not his fault, he’s not the one to blame. I really appreciate the intention and I appreciate this player."
Belgium clearly identified the overloads out wide as the key that unlocks the US attack, and have completely neutralized it. And the US have just been beating themselves defensively. 3-1. Pulisic subbed out and very emotional on the bench.
- setting the stage for Pulisic to step into the spotlight in this match, maybe score his first of the tournament and for Balogun to return as the hero in the quarterfinals… that all still may happen, but not without controversy created by people completely outside the team.
Balogun has been top class. He handled the red card with humility, and his teammates honored that by digging deep & dominating w/ 10 men. It’s a shame the controversy surrounding Trump’s reported intervention now threatens to overshadow both Balogun and the team’s accomplishments
Especially considering this US side has the quality to beat Belgium without Balogun. He’s vital to this team’s success in the tournament, but not to this match. Was shaping up to be a great storyline of the US overcoming adversity and beating a European side
BREAKING: The English FA are considering an appeal against Jarrel Quansah's red card against Mexico 🚨
Tuchel said after the game he was furious at the officials who took charge of the game and the two VAR decisions which saw Quansah sent off and Mexico awarded a penalty.
The appeals just keep coming:
France have appealed to FIFA to request Michael Olise’s yellow card against Paraguay is rescinded.
Increasingly feels like FIFA have lost control of their World Cup here.

Statement from UEFA expresses “disbelief" at FIFA's decision, calling it "unprecedented, incomprehensible and unjustifiable" and argues that when rules are not guaranteed by their guardians, the "integrity of the game is at stake" 👀
Love that Jiménez put his away, but all that stutter did was give Pickford a chance to recover from initially diving the wrong way! But man this game has been good!
Perfect PK example. Pick a side. Step up and smash it low and hard. Even if the goalie guesses correctly, it’s going in. No stutter step, no weird run up. Just bury it. #england vs #mexico
