This semester I had the honor of interning at Pleasant View Homes!During my time at Pleasant View I created an educational program for adults with disabilities. I was able to teach them about meaningful topics and provide solutions to the risks they face. #JMUPsychSymposium2021
@emily_shah28 I love this question! One challenge I had during these lessons were violent outbursts from residents. It could be very disappointing when I worked hard to plan the lesson. When this happened, I would give them breaks and allow them to come back to the lesson when they were ready!
@krizzyvj Hi! Thank you so much for this question! One thing I will take away from this experience are the skills I learned from interacting with non-verbal residents. I was lacking in this department, and learned how to understand their communication through eye contact and hand signals!
@swampfoxshep I think the most meaningful part of my experience was becoming a friend and spending time with residents. Due to Covid-19, they haven’t been able to do much. It was rewarding to plan activities and keep them company during my field placement!
