This is a deliberate push for heavy microtransactions, on a broken, below average game.

Digital Foundry's John Linneman stated that he heard from many developers and publishers directly that they’re disappointed with Sony and that there’s “a lot of resentment” towards them due to their plan to end physical media🚀
“The industry side of things is not positive right now about what's happening. A lot of resentment for what Sony has done”
That’s another source, a very reputable one, reporting that the industry is not happy with Sony’s decision

A player turned on his old PS3 to play Metal Gear Solid 4, but found that he could no longer access his digital games.
His PlayStation account was deleted after years of inactivity and all games linked to the account were no longer accessible.
“Sony deleted my whole account due to inactivity…. I hate Sony but this just made me hate them more.”
Sony’s terms allow accounts to be closed after 36 months of continuous inactivity, although users are supposed to be notified and given time to log back in.
Good reminder that you don’t own your digital games on playstation
Rumor: Sony may be getting cold feet on the digital-only push because Xbox is leaning harder into physical.
Apparently some publishers are already looking at Sony’s direction like a liability, and one major publisher is even rumored to be considering skipping PlayStation for a big upcoming title if Sony can’t guarantee a physical release.
Nothing confirmed yet.
But if this is true, this is exactly how you make these companies move.
Not by begging.
By making the bad decision cost them money.
Thanks for supporting the #PSBlackout campaign from August 23-30. 🙏🎮
And it looks like the message may be slowly getting through. 👀
Sony planned to move PlayStation toward digital-only games by 2028, but new rumors suggest that transition could now be delayed by 1–2 years.
The backlash is also reportedly growing at Gamescom, with concerns from gamers and parts of the industry over Sony’s disc-free strategy.
Meanwhile, Microsoft is reportedly considering keeping physical games on its next-gen Xbox, while potentially allowing players to convert physical discs into digital licenses.
If these reports are true, Sony may be starting to rethink how aggressively it moves away from physical games - especially with the PS6 on the horizon.
The message is simple:
💿 No Disc, No Buy.
Your voice matters. Keep pushing.

Rumors from Gamescom suggest Sony may be reconsidering its plans to move further toward digital-only PlayStation releases due to Xbox 100% physical strategy
According to Eurogamer Spain, some publishers are discussing how Sony’s approach to physical games could leave an opening for competitors to change their own strategies.
Microsoft is reportedly telling publishers that its next console, Project Helix, will be “100% physical,” with the ability to convert physical games into digital licenses.
Another claim says a major game maker has allegedly told Sony that it could skip PlayStation for one of its biggest upcoming titles if Sony cannot guarantee a physical release.
These are just rumors unverified
