The Voice has gone from having a genuine musical legend in Sir Tom Jones to Cheryl and Aitch. What an absolute downgrade, two people with all the vocal credibility of a karaoke machine with a dying battery. @ITV
So many of you are desperately trying to position yourselves on the “right” side of what happened to Jason Arday, now that the consequences of your earlier behaviour are harder to ignore. Absolute trash!
Solidarity means something precisely when it isn’t convenient. You don’t get to rewrite the past simply because the present makes your previous position look embarrassing af.
The disproportionate and bullying commentary and coverage of Jason Arday’s mistakes has been obviously dangerous for days. Yes it was a legitimate story, and in various ways a troubling one. But the relentless coverage, the vitriol and bile. The clip of a man talking about us needing more love in the world endlessly mocked. Compare it to the way others who embellished and invented life stories or floated seemingly naive ideas are forgiven. Obviously employers have duties of care. But spare us the pity of those who weaponised his story for social media clicks without a thought.
The Jason Arday issue should’ve been an HR one, but instead it became weeks of front-page media coverage and public discourse. I hope a lot of people are feeling guilty tonight.
The treatment of Jason Arday felt like a modern-day lynching, not with a rope, but with headlines, accusations and relentless public humiliation. The UK press must ask itself how far is too far, and what responsibility it bears when a human being is reduced to a spectacle.
Powerful white men lie, fail and still receive sympathy and second chances. Professor Jason Arday, a Black man, faced relentless scrutiny. Now he is dead. A society that gives some grace while denying it to others must reckon with its conscience. Rest in peace, Jason Arday. 🕊️
For a show that claims to care about contestants’ mental health, the way Jasmine is being edited feels incredibly unfair. It’s uncomfortable viewing and honestly hard to watch. #LoveIslandUK
They’re in a luxury villa with a huge pool and somehow all they do is sit in circles discussing the same three conversations. Somebody jump in the water, please. 💦 #LoveIslandUK
