Media is becoming a powerful driver of tourism and the 5th edition of the Rwenzori Marathon proved exactly that. 🏃🏾‍♂️⛰️

With World Athletics streaming the marathon live and commentators bringing the experience to audiences beyond Uganda, the event reached thousands of people.
This visibility created opportunities for local businesses, tourism sites and the region’s wider economic growth.

We proudly celebrated a milestone today, by awarding the pioneer cohort of 52 participants in the Certificate in Critical Thinking and Social Intelligence—a three-week short course by the Department of Philosophy @MakerereCHUSS. Over 350 applications were received, underscoring the public’s hunger for practical skills in reasoning, judgment, and social awareness amid information overload.

Course coordinator @SpireJim noted that the programme was born out of a conviction that philosophy can impact society beyond the classroom, combining critical thinking with social intelligence so participants “leave not only able to reason more rigorously but also better equipped to read social situations and engage constructively with people who hold different views.”

Chief Guest, DVCAA Prof. @SsaliSarah congratulated the graduates: “This is exactly the kind of impact we want Makerere University to have on society.” She urged them to apply their new skills in homes, workplaces, and communities.

It was a very fulfilling day today as our first cohort of the short course in Critical Thinking and Social Intelligence graduated today. It was a dream come true moment. The amazing diverse group consisting of medics, teachers, vets, journalists, politicians, accountants, pharmacists, architects, civil society actors, PRs, students etc promised to live and spread what they’ve learnt for a more rational, reasonable and humane society. The surprise were their financial pledges towards future trainings, for the continuity of the cause. Thanks @KasUganda for the support that enabled the Department of Philosophy to get this rolling. No turning back. Congratulations to all the awardees! Go and light more candles of reason
