Good morning hockey fans ———
July 1st has come and gone but the movement is not done yet.
With that said, which teams do you think made the strongest moves to be competitive this upcoming season?
Which teams would you categorize as low-key good and lastly, which teams completely flopped the frenzy and didn’t make decent moves?
I mentioned yesterday that Toronto made some moves that cannot be ignored. I really like Trocheck & Lee with the Mammoth and well…the Sharks.
Thoughts?

Have a day hockey fans!
For anyone pulling JJ Peterka’s numbers over the past few seasons and freaking out 𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 do not forget how much coaching & system matter. A lot of Sabres players struggled to find their game with all the change overs in Buffalo prior to this season.
Fans freaked over the Mittelstadt & Arvidsson signings, yet under Marco Sturm:
Mittelstadt’s numbers nearly replicated one of his better seasons in 2022-23.
Arvidsson had 10 more goals & 17 more assists than his final season with the Oilers plus, he sat at a +20 rating (for the first time since 2017-2018)
With Marco Sturm and some of the potential system tweaks coach mentioned in his post playoff presser, who knows what strides a guy like Peterka could make with the Bs.
And you get a JJ without giving up a Dean Letourneau or a Will Zellers.
Good Morning Hockey Fans ——
Especially the @Canes 2026 Stanley Cup Champion fans! Tis the season of loyal fan bases being rewarded.
Brandon Bussi comes up strong with a 3-0 shutout performance to help the Canes become champions. (The diving, puck punching save was my fav).
Taylor Hall got the party started and what a story he has that led to him hoisting Lord Stanley.
Size ain’t nothing but a number because two guys that were deemed undersized for the NHL played a huge role in the Canes claiming victory. (Blake + Stankoven 👏)
And the captain, O captain! What a campaign he’s had in this series. But his leadership goes beyond last night. To steer the ship in rebuild after rebuild while dealing with your own heavy hearted situations off the ice.
Massive congratulations to Jordan Staal, coach Rod Brind’ Amour & the Caroline Hurricanes!
What was your favourite moment from Game 6 or this series overall?
Brandon Bussi is a Stanley Cup Champion.
Brandon Bussi is a perfect reminder to never give up because you 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 know when your number will get called.
Brandon Bussi has become the 19th goalie in the NHL to post a shutout in a game that directly clinched a Stanley Cup victory.
Good Morning Hockey Fans ——
The Canes captain continues to steer the ship in an exciting direction, while campaigning for 37 to be the 𝙣𝙚𝙬 27. I’m on board with this.
Ehlers plays host, keeping his teammates fed, dishing out three assists on the night.
What a game for Svechnikov & Aho to make their presence known and you gotta love the emotion that followed each goal of the night!!
Last but certainly not least, Sir Bussi delivering timely trusted saves! Weathered the 13 shots on goal by the Golden Knights in the third period. Mashed the breaks on the big attempts by Howden, Sissons, and Hertl AND only allowed two goals off 35 scoring chances.
What were your favourite moments from Game 5 and what are your predictions for Game 6?
Also, is Torts going to stick with Hart…
Have a day, everyone!!
Can Bussi make the extra saves to support Carolina’s offense + that Carolina captain’s so hot right now (Zoolander voice), why?
Always a great time chatting with the CBS Sports crew.
The Bruins found their guy as Matt Mcllvane reunites with HC Marco Sturm.
Sturm & Mcllvane previously worked together on the coaching staff for Team Germany during the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Good Morning Hockey Fans ——
The hockey poetry in this series continues to deliver. Brandon Bussi extends his bragging rights beyond the regular season and helps guide the Canes to a 5-3 win to tie the series 2-2!
I’m here for every Jordan Staal goal and roaring celly >>>>
Speaking of captains, 👏 for Mark Stone!
Canes typical saviors reclaimed their capes and gave Carolina the needed cushion with their first period heroics.
What were your favourite moments from Game four and what are your expectations for Game 5?
Have a day, everyone!
Good Morning Hockey Fans ——
Game 3 delivered and we will only be referring to Mitch Marner as Mitchell Daniel Marner because government names are required for epic behavior.
Marner notches a hat trick within 6 minutes and 10 seconds + tallies four points in a period both putting him in a historic Stanley Cup Playoff category.
McNabb needs 20-30 stitches after Game 2’s puck to the face and logs 35 minutes and 47 seconds of ice time upon his return 👀
Carolina adds to the historic night by collecting three goals in 39 seconds to push Game 3 into OT!
Lastly, who gets the net for Carolina for Game 4? Do you think the Canes still have a chance?
Good morning hockey fans ——
Many of you asked for me to keep Playoff Coffee with Kase rolling, so we’re back!
First, who do you have winning Lord Stanley?
Canes borrow the comeback kids title from Vegas, carving their name in playoff history, rallying late in the third to push for a 4-3 OT win. We have a 1-1 series friends.
The captains came through for both teams but it’s Seth Jarviss power play one-timer (& a sigh of relief) that lock in the W for the Canes.
Vegas commanded most of the game creating mayhem in the middle of the ice but it wasn’t enough…or was it the calls that worked against them? Comment your thoughts below :)
Hopped on CBS and realized I was wayyy too basic about potential Conn Smythe players / value so @ToddFuhrman thoughts on Shayne Gostisbehere 50-1 if Carolina figures this out?
Last but not least, I didn’t expect the overwhelming amount of love, support, and kind words from so many of you and it means the world. Thank you to all who have reached out and helped keep my chin up. I love what I’m so fortunate to do and the people I get to meet and connect with along the way. You all make every moment worth while 🤍
