Terrific day on Capitol Hill, advocating for measures that will help people pay for their healthcare, and improve access to primary care in some of the nation's most under-resourced areas. Thanks @AOAforDOs for a great #DODay19!
On our way to Capitol Hill! On the docket this year: talking about funding for Teaching Health Center residency programs and access to Direct Primary Care. #DODay19
Thank you @Surgeon_General! It was an honor and a privilege to hear you speak this morning about the most pressing issues in healthcare and effective leadership in the profession. Truly inspiring.
How great to start off the morning and week with a talk to medical students advocating on behalf of their patients and profession- they even did a Naloxone training yesterday! #howdoUadvocate @SOMAPolitics
Great day at the AOA Midyear Meeting talking about the work of SOMA. Thank you @AOAforDOs for your constant support and commitment to students. @whitefaines thank you for being such a fierce advocate for students and for all that you have done for the profession #DOProud
As (future) physicians our basic duty is to care for the health and well-being of our patients. Guns have become a vehicle for entirely too much death, injury and psychological trauma, and we need better research to understand how to curb this violence.

Particularly excited to see the AOA advocating for federal funding for gun violence research, continued protection of essential benefits and protection against deceptive healthcare billing practices.

We don’t always have to be strong. We don’t have to be afraid to ask for help. @tmswDO addresses how physicians also face personal challenges. Accessing mental health services should not prevent career progression.
It was an incredible privilege to be included in the FSMB's Workgroup on Sexual Boundary Violations in DC yesterday. The work they are doing is so thoughtful and engages with this topic on such a high level -- it gave me great hope for the future of the profession.
Riveting & thoughtful presentations by AAMC, AACOM, SOMA & others yesterday before FSMB's Workgroup on Sexual Boundary Violations, chaired by Pat King, MD, PhD
The theme for SOMA Spring Convention this year is "Advocacy in Action." It's going to be two days full of exciting programming focussed on leadership development and healthcare advocacy. A great excuse to come to DC to learn, network, and engage in advocacy.
Registration for SOMA Spring Convention is officially open. This year's conference will take place on Sunday March 3rd and Monday March 4th, with DO Day on Capitol Hill taking place on Tuesday March 5th.

We hope to see you there!
Thank you @AMAmedstudents for welcoming @NationalSOMA into the fold! We're so excited to officially have a seat in the AMA-MSS Assembly and we look forward to all that we'll accomplish through this new partnership.
We’re proud to announce that the American Medical Association - Medical Student Section (AMA-MSS) has officially voted to grant SOMA a seat in their Assembly.
This decision will open the door for increased unity among medical students and for the medical profession in general.
A third of people under 35 postponed, delayed, or cancelled care due to cost compared with only 8 percent of people 65 and older. https://t.co/Hpi3zEZbVJ
