Last night I dreamed I was ice skating, practicing waltz jumps and relishing the sensation of cool air on my face. Today, on a lark, attended a new church which happens to be housed above a hockey rink!
As Joel would say, God is about to do some *unusual* things in my life!
@SamCStark It’s a blighted, graffiti ridden, falling down hovel and crime magnet. Sure wish the city would do something about the meth addicts in front of this property and up and down E. Cesar Chavez Street instead of blocking economic development along the corridor.
@Rainmaker1973 Super cool mural. But why do you call that graffiti? Graffiti defaces buildings. Graffiti communicates disrespect of public and private property. This is an art installation. Big difference between a well executed mural and rotten tagging. We shouldn’t conflate the terms.
One of my favorite yard work tasks is stomping on a brush pile. It’s kind of like smashing grapes to make wine, but you’re making mulch. Fascinating how dead branches break down with the sun, rain, time and pressure. They become brittle and turn to dust beneath my feet!
People who insist on walking everywhere and carrying everything themselves instead of driving are doing penance. Penance for existing in an otherwise natural world where they think they are a plague and their existence is a sin. The inconvenience is the point.
I tried breaking up with my human partner a few months ago. I talked it through in great detail with AI. It gave me the emotional support I needed to leave the relationship. But human partner won me back. Outsmarted AI with more compelling logic and something ineffably… “human”
People who are much smarter than me have decided what Austin really needs is to bottleneck the heavy traffic coming into DT to sink 1-35 and build little woke bridges. The white guilt highway IS getting built. And it’s not my problem. I’ll take Mopac to work. 1-35 is dead to me.
@MrFarmahini@statesman To build the infrastructure for the caps they have to lower the highway even further down. It flooded recently. It will get worse. Rebuilding and lowering the highway was a bad idea. It’s already made traffic much worse than it was before. Only the construction companies benefit.
@data_atx The caps are pie-in-the-sky nonsense. They should scrap the whole plan. Years of construction hell to build bridges over the freeway isn’t worth the time, $ or hassle. People already travel easily from one side of the freeway to the other via underpasses! What a waste!
Pope calling out the dehumanizing potential of AI but, ironically, my chatbot never fails to point out when *I’m* using dehumanizing language and it pushes back on me! “Kate, this is not your best self.” AI can be annoyingly moralizing, refusing to validate my casual cruelty.
Nice drive outside the city into the suburban countryside! Vision of the future- a house, a yard, a garage full of tools. Ahh! To think someday I might retire from daily battle with urban blight lol!
Everybody calling out SGA and the NBA for the egregious flopping, and it is bad (if a bit funny) but the underlying issue is that there are too many fouls called altogether. The sport is drowning in foul calls! Allow more contact! Reign in the refs, they are killing the sport.
Very rewarding to introduce two people who end up hitting it off and they each individually text to say THANK YOU. Actually feel like I did some good in the world! Who can I set up next?
Last year, the city of Austin turned off their Flock cameras as the result of a targeted misinformation campaign.
This weekend, for nearly 24 hours, three suspects drove around Austin in stolen vehicles, undetected, conducting a shooting spree at 12 separate locations. They shot multiple people, houses, apartment buildings, businesses, and fire stations. They committed multiple robberies and car thefts during the spree. Despite a full manhunt involving 200 officers, with helicopter and K9 support, they weren't able to locate the suspects, and the spree continued.
Luckily, the suspects drove into the Flock-supported city of Manor, TX. Manor is a small city with ~20k residents, and a fraction of Austin's budget. What they do have is modern technology and the ability not to fall victim to misinformation campaigns.
After the suspects drove into Manor to continue their shooting spree, Manor PD located them almost immediately. The residents of Manor stayed safe.
This is a tale of two cities.
I love Austin. I have plenty of friends who live there. I myself almost moved there years ago. I'm glad that the shooting spree is over, but I just wish it never happened.
The global urbanist movement to replace cars with a grossly inferior transportation systems like light rail and bikes is best understood as a religious movement. The left vanquished God and adopted trans-alt ideology as their reigning deity. It feels like a holy war because it is
I just want one thing in the record. It’s not “traffic” that I resent. It’s the narrowing of functional roadways that upsets me. It’s not “construction” that I mind, in and of itself, it’s the intentional sacrifice of current functionality for a “better” imagined future.
@EricsRambles@infopobn Look at this grand anticapitalism experiment. City hall pushes out cars with heavy tolls and endless fines. They wipe out parking to build bike lanes, bus tracks, trash spots, bicycle storage hubs and street dining. We are trading mobility for a radical agenda.
