Even January 11th is 10 days from any contact people may have had New Years, with the cdc recommended time to quarantine for symptoms to show. It's not unreasonable.
Tonight the Fauquier County School Board voted to open on January 6 under an all-virtual instructional model through January 15, with an option to start the hybrid model on January 19. The School Board will re-examine the data at their January 11 meeting. Details to follow.

oh hi, I'm a finalist for my PB&J Algorithm and Debugging project I did with my virtual students last Friday! All votes for my photo would be so appreciated! Click the link above!
PB&J Algorithm Writing & Debugging! Their original directions are in black, their revisions are in red (after watching me try to spread jelly with my finger!)! Jax gets the sandwich for lunch π

Teachers: I know WE are exhausted.
BUT...thanking our parents who are getting their kids online every day and supporting their asynchronous work is so important.
The response you get will feed your passion.
Learning for all...WHATEVER it takes. @tweetwps

He won't remember me now, but I was a long term sub (aspiring teacher still in grad school) when he was AP at Ellis Elementary. He would look at me each morning I signed in, tell me how important it was for subs to be there. I wasn't even staff, but I felt useful and important...
@NicholasFerroni I didn't scroll through but I bet there are hundreds of stories like mine. #teachinginlabor And then to be shamed for taking full maternity leave instead of coming back early post cesarean for standardized testing.
@MsDoeringJKES this one is for you and my OG team rocking it on the other side of the building in testing land. Dictated "pacing" is unreasonable, but you guys are incredible with engagement this year!
Educators, try not to let pacing guides and the overwhelming amount of standards you need to cover dominate your time. There is too much imperfection with remote/hybrid instruction, it is impossible to do it all. Instead, focus on feedback, engagement and 21st century skills.
@FixingEducation Here's the thing for us in VA. They are moving to exploratory, project based, career enhancing, computer science etc..They just haven't taken any of the other outdated standards or pressure away so now it's double the work and time to get it all in!
