the #projecthailmary 's movie ending is probably more focused on the parallels of stratt giving grace 3 hours to decide vs rocky telling him he can think about it for a long time and i think it was a pretty nice touch!

in the books it was more deep because he now knows the sun is okay and the earth is habitable yet he didn't want to go home because he made friends on erid and he's not getting younger. i also loved rocky saying outright that he wanted him to stay too for selfish reasons.

Cinematographer Greig Fraser breaks down the lighting in “Project Hail Mary,” the most challenging film of his career:

• The 70-foot tunnel where Rocky meets Grace was illuminated at once rather than using a single moving light to simulate sunlight passing through the entire space.

• Fraser couldn’t rely on LEDs, so the team built a massive rig of old-school tungsten lights and pixel-mapped them to create a controllable, moving “sun” inside the tunnel.

• The eerie look of the sequence was inspired by deep-sea footage, with the tunnel designed to feel like descending into darkness, lit only by a single source.

• Rocky could only be front-lit and couldn’t emit any light of its own, so everything had to come from the “sun” source in the scene.

Ok! Story of this shot - during postvis we were just walking rocky next to Grace.Chris&Phil said what if he goes to water to chrck temp. I said what if he rolls into it! They said go for it!!! I am glad we did :)
