From time to time, the last thing I do for a patient is sign their death certificate, and one of those times was this morning. He was such a sweetheart who had been dealt a bad hand in life.

Hardly anyone knew he ever lived, and hardly anyone knew he died. But I knew him, and right now, I’m missing him. And I’m sure I’ll remember him for years to come, maybe right to the moment when it is my time to leave this world. Some patients stay with you.
