「Fugitive」

Dokken Album Ranking from Worst to Best
#8: Heaven Comes Down (2023)
I’ll be honest, when this album came out, I was pleasantly surprised! It had been ELEVEN YEARS since the release of the disappointing ‘Broken Bones’ and when I saw this was coming out, I had ZERO expectations. I had known that Don’s voice was failing him for a long time even before this album came out. So I was worried about what he would sound like on a new album. And I’ll say this, he’s definitely the weakest link here. He needs to stay in such a low register just so his voice can carry some form of melody and for the most part, it works out okay. Some parts sound worse than others, but I think it could’ve gone A LOT worse. The shining star of this album is surprisingly Jon Levin! I think he absolutely RIPS on this thing! Pulling out some really classic sounding Dokken riffs and amazing solos!
To me, the first two tracks ‘Fugitive’ and ‘Gypsy’ are REALLY good songs! Solid rockers with great guitar playing and decent vocals from Don! ‘Just Like A Rose’ and ‘I’ll Never Give Up’ are a couple slower tempo tracks that really show Don having to use his lower register voice and it working. ‘Over The Mountain’ is a decent rocker as well. Maybe my favorite song on the album is ‘Lost In You’! That song has Levin’s BEST guitar playing on the album and his riffs on this song are AWESOME! Really killer!
Overall, this is a really surprising album if you don’t have any expectations😂 If you’re looking for Don Dokken to sound like his old self again, look elsewhere😂 But this is a REALLY solid album with some legitimately killer stuff on it that I DON’T think should be ignored! 🤘🏻🔥
Cirith UngolのFrost & Fire
Tim Baker
