I'm Kerim, 26, a web developer from Germany. For the past year I've been building a recipe app on the side, because my girlfriend and I kept losing recipes in TikTok saves and screenshots.

Plateful fixes that. Share a TikTok, Reel, YouTube video or website to the app and it becomes a proper recipe with ingredients and steps. Plan your week, share everything with your household, and ask the chatbot to make a recipe vegan or spicier.

i keep defaulting to the same meals because i forget about recipes i saved.

so i added a "not planned in a while" sort to plateful that moves meals haven’t cooked in a while to the top

for Plateful, I download the full video, grab the description, and feed everything into an LLM at once.

it watches the cooking directly to parse the recipe even with zero sound or text.

trickiest part was making it fast and getting clean outputs

most recipe scrapers only check the video description. At most they grab the transcript or even use OCR if they are good.

but the second a cooking video is silent or half-explained, they break.

chatgpt is great for recipe ideas until you actually start cooking.

you can't save what worked, organizing them is a mess, and tweaking ingredients means copy-pasting everything into your notes app.
