The @statesman journalists have asked @Gannett to come to the table to mediate so we can close a fair contract but the company has so far refused. Let’s get this contract closed! #solidarity
Really scratching my head at this decision, esp coming from an editor who faced significant criticism for choosing to release security footage of a mass shooting before families of the victims -- who were mostly children -- had a chance to see it.
This seems like it’s going to have a Streisand effect. Would any readers have seen this photo to begin with?
This so wrong and dumb. Glad Houston Landing has its union to call this kind of stuff out! #Yallidarity forever!
8/ Our new editor-in-chief, Manny Garcia, said the photo is problematic because it could harm his ability to cover or build trust with survivors of mass shootings.
Nothing in our employee handbook covers that concern, and Trombly espoused no personal views in the post.
.@Statesman journalists just ended a four-day ULP strike in protest of @Gannett’s bad-faith bargaining. Here are the unethical & embarassing ways @Statesman management & @Gannett tried to cover up our absence from the paper, misrepresenting & creating errors as they did. 🧵
Attention Cap10k participants 📣🦇
We usually love covering the race, but this year, we're on strike three years into our fight for a fair contract.
You can show your support for Austin NewsGuild's fight by wearing purple tomorrow while you run🏃🏼(or walk 👟we don’t judge!)
Us checking the strike fund to find out we have raised more than $6,000 since we went on strike yesterday 💕
HUGE thank you to anyone who donated in solidarity, including former @Statesman staff— it means a lot🦇🌟 Keep it up at https://t.co/kuhWkzstQJ #StatesmanOnStrike#Day2
.@gannett is trying to hire temporary workers to fill the jobs of striking Austin American-Statesman employees. Please stand in solidarity with @statesman journalists and don’t take these jobs.

I really, really, really wanted to avoid this strike, but Gannett and newsroom leadership have consistently proven that they can’t be taken seriously. This is about colleagues who deserve better and preserving the future of a newspaper that has taken too many hits over the years.
Everything you’ve heard about Gannett is true. They’re killing newsrooms, disrespecting local journalism and doing their best to keep the profits flowing back to the CEO instead of to the workers. Help us fight for fair practices not only for us - but for future journalists.
