@Sharmee95198527 Hi Sharmeen,
The Social Dilemma documentary also opened my eyes up to the downsides of relying on technology too much. As much as I love being able to keep up with my friends lives, the world we live in today is moving too fast and dangerously to keep up with everything
@nicolettegoldh2 Hi Nicolette,
In my own experience I think that the weight of the pandemic has allowed virtual networking to become a lot easier and more normal form of social interaction. An affordance of socially networked communities
Our own work does show that most find support and remain connected under networked individualism, but we have not always given equal weight to those who struggle—some with disconnection and isolation"
#datingfromhome is one example of how socially networked communities have an advantage to networked individualism. Under the weight of the pandemic, many are turning to #virtualevents and meeting online with friends and family to find support and comfort #DCIM352
@ireneli180 Hi Irene,
As much as I love social media I find that there will be times and moments where I need a break from "connection". In the past two years I have been taking a 1 month break from social media and hope to continue moving forward
@KenyiVRU Hi Kenyi,
At this point I can see that social media is already integrated into society. A good example would be Facebook's usage of "check ins" for events and places.
#TheSocialDilemma exposes what giant media companies have been doing all along. Social media is manipulated by aggregated user data and targeted algorithms to further mine user data. A big giant loophole to be frank. #DCIM352
@dykaix Hi Sonny,
I can still hear the screaming in my headphones as my friends and I ran away from the cops with 5 stars. GTA V was a really fun game to play when it came out in 2013. Especially if you could get away from the cops with your friends
@Laura29916189 Hi Laura, I have fond memories playing this game while i was in middle school, moving into high school. This game was so fun to play especially if you had a full crew of people to play with.
One popular example of immaterial labor and gaming is Valorant. Valorant is a first person shooter where users play as different characters with various abilities and backgrounds. Players take turn attacking, planting, and defending bomb sites. #DCIM352
As Dyer writes on pg 22, immaterial labor is work involving information and communication. As players take checkpoints and plant bombs, communication is key to playing effectively and win.
@nishberlin Hi Nishta, I think the farming laws in India are marginalizing the farmers community. Farmers are key to a healthy economy and need to be fairly treated
@amato_sienna Hi Sienna,
I think the feminist movement is shedding light on how women are not asking to have greater power in society but equal choice and representation. I hope by using the power of digital spaces, more actions are done for women in the public
#DCIM352 One example of a counter-public is #StopAsianHate. Since the very start of the global pandemic, there has been an exponential rise in racism, crime, and hate against those within the Asian community. This hashtag communicates the thoughts of the Asian community
@haley_konopka Hi Haley,
I have seen people #starbuckssecretmenu all over the internet and never tried any of the items myself. I should though. If only my wallet would let me
@MichaelTenenba8 Hi Michael,
I forgot that certain events can be a brand public. UFC Vegas 20' was a highly anticipated fight bringing people together who shared an interest in UFC and martial arts
@nishberlin Hi Nishta,
Similarly to you a networked public I follow relates to film photography. It is a growing community despite the out phasing of film in the last two decades
