@Sparbtastic p.s. Psychology Today is a good resource for this info, as are the therapists’ websites. I usually start with Psych Today and then look for more info on the people who seem most helpful for me.
@Sparbtastic (1) The best therapist I ever had had a PhD in Psychology, not an MA or PsyD. The person I’m currently working with has a PsyD, and she’s good but incomparable to my #1. I think to some degree she was so good bc she’s been practicing for many years, and
@Sparbtastic (4) for me. So much depends on the reasons you’re seeking out therapy and what you hope to gain from it. I don’t work well with people who have answers — I like therapists who help ME to come to my own conclusions. That’s where the deep change happens, imho.
@Sparbtastic (3) need to work through. I also look at their descriptions of themselves and their philosophies and mentally rhetorically analyze them bc I can’t help it 😂. If they make big claims or say a lot about themselves or seem like they’ll have answers, they’re not
@Sparbtastic (2) she was around my parents’ age, and that was what I needed. Look at the kinds of therapy they practice — that makes a difference for me. I tend to look for mindfulness based therapy and acceptance & commitment therapy given the things I most continually
This teacher finally stopped using rubrics after realizing that trying to tweak them was a fool's errand. Once she looked at how "students as *people* interact with them," she saw that rubrics inherently "make education less human": https://t.co/R9xndju9So
Writing is embodied praxis. Sometimes it's folding laundry. Sometimes it's sorting medication into the pill counter. Sometimes it's going for a walk. What stifles writing is assessment and judgement. We should keep reimagining writing without grades and punitive critique.
@Rachel_Bloom I believe that hello brand has a teething gel (available on thrive market if i’m remembering correctly?) that’s safe — i’ll probably try it with this next one. Also, we gave M a shit ton of Tylenol, and that helped a ton.
@Kyle_R_Larson I’m really sorry and know this disappointment. And as someone who will be on the job market in the near future, I want to thank you for being humble and brave enough to share with us. Honesty and humility do worlds for community-building.
@SocraTemp2 Speaking truth to other white folks, talking to my 4 y/o about this shit and about comparisons to #BLM protests, figuring out diss argument so I can teach as much as poss and hopefully get involved in admin or public policy. And looking in mirror.
@drewloewe @kristin_ravel @kristin_ravel this -- I've used these books and love them, and I like the collection of other readings as an open collection for teachers to choose from and add to (or suggest additions to). Shevaun's text created for UWM is also 💯
I think 1 of the hardest things abt online teaching for many is how concisely assignments & materials have to be written. You can't get away w weak writing & then plug in the holes during F2F class time. That kind of writing takes time & energy. Lots of revisions.
