30 Million Tokens Later… Here’s My Take on Cursor’s Start Plan.

I’ve been seeing a lot of discussions around Cursor’s new Start Plan, and I felt many opinions were based on assumptions rather than actual usage.

So I decided to test it myself.

One thing that surprised me was the usage limit. Before hitting the cap, I had consumed roughly 30M tokens while using Composer 2.5 and Grok 4.5.

For context, if you compare that with Grok’s API pricing (around $2/M input and $6/M output), even a rough estimate of 20M mixed tokens translates to approximately $56–$80 worth of API usage.

That’s an interesting value proposition for a plan that’s primarily aimed at helping more people get started with AI-powered development.

I’ve also noticed comments saying the plan doesn’t include a frontier model. However, Grok 4.5 is widely considered one of today’s frontier models in many benchmark comparisons.

I think it’s also important to understand who this plan is for. It’s not trying to replace the Pro plan. It’s meant for students, first-time Cursor users, and developers who want to experience Cursor before upgrading. If you’re a heavy daily user, the Pro plan is still the better choice.

Another interesting point: India is currently the only country where this Start Plan is available. 🇮🇳

The goal of this post isn’t to convince anyone, it’s simply to share real usage data so people can make informed decisions instead of relying on assumptions.

What an unforgettable day!

Cursor Hackathon Ahmedabad became much more than a hackathon—it was a celebration of innovation, collaboration, and the incredible energy of our developer community.

Here’s what we achieved together:

📈 1,100+ registrations
✅ 150 participants shortlisted
🙌 138 attendees checked in
👥 35 teams competed

The excitement started even before the event, with participants arriving 30 minutes early, eager to start building.

The quality of projects exceeded all expectations. Teams transformed ambitious ideas into impressive, production-ready applications in just a few hours using Cursor.

📱 Cursor Mobile Challenge

We introduced a dedicated Cursor iOS category, and nearly 15 teams participated. The highlight? Our overall winning team built their entire project exclusively using the Cursor Mobile App, proving what’s possible with AI-powered development on mobile.

🛠️ Cursor helped organize the hackathon too!

A volunteer @adityasinh209 built a Domain Selection Portal to help teams explore ideas before choosing a track.

My fellow Cursor Ambassador @vishalnai56 built a multi-stage evaluation platform that streamlined project reviews and gave our judges structured feedback throughout the day.

We also assigned 2 volunteers to every 4 teams, ensuring every team received mentorship while evaluation feedback was captured continuously.

I built an automation tool that simplified participant check-ins and automated the distribution of Cursor credits and partner offers after the event.

It was amazing to see Cursor powering both the projects and the event operations.
