Today @nihecommunity celebrates 20 years of #SupportingPeople. An essential service that provides housing support to give independence at home. It’s a critical service that #housingassociations are very proud to deliver, BUT it is inadequately funded and at risk of cuts.
#SupportingPeople providers are very concerned that the already strained SP budget could be cut. We campaigned hard to secure a funding uplift last year but that could be reversed as seen in the @nihecommunity response to the @CommunitiesNI#EQIA consultation.
We have today urged the Department for Communities to carefully consider the equality and service impacts of its budget allocations to ensure that those most in need are not left behind. Read our joint letter here: https://t.co/wNvupR9vqd
Funding from the #SupportingPeople programme means that Eva has the opportunity to live alongside her peers and enjoy an active social life.
She shares what a ‘wonderful difference’ living in @RadiusHousing Donard Fold has made to her.
Our #SupportingPeople staff are committed to making real change and their work has touched the lives of so many over 20 years.
On their anniversary year we would like to say thank you for your dedication, delivery and the difference you have made.
@AlphaCRW highlights the huge benefits that #SupportingPeople provides and we are gravely concerned that the funding package which is already very stretched could be impacted more by the @CommunitiesNI budget cuts. #KeepSPNI
Supporting People helps protect our health service & support many people right across NI. The SP budget has been under pressure for many years & the benefit it brings is needed more than ever now - it is vital that the #SupportingPeople budget is protected @AlphaCRW@bbcnewsline
Very worrying news about huge cuts at @CommunitiesNI. #SupportingPeople funding for 19,000 of NI’s most vulnerable must be preserved. It’s already faced 15yrs of inflationary cuts. It can’t survive any more. #keepspni https://t.co/E75hzYeJOv
Considerable lobbying by CRISPP and many others in the sector secures new #supportingpeople funding - Programme supporting independent living in Northern Ireland gets uplift for first time in 15 years https://t.co/wgTLkGjsHH
NIFHA has welcomed the announcement that additional funding is to be provided for the #SupportingPeople programme, but cautions that more support is needed to ensure the programme can continue to deliver for vulnerable people. Read more here ▶️ https://t.co/NjZ9N1nXEu
At the @NIFHA finance conference today, it was noted that the sector continues to be under funding pressures in non-general needs housing. #supportingpeople cited as one of the economic pressures due to lack of inflationary uplifts. #NIFHAFC22#keepspni
Housing associations provide quality sheltered housing schemes but a lack of inflationary uplifts to #SupportingPeople funding which covers housing support costs is of grave concern to all providers.
Excellent event today. Important that we maintain and grow the funding for continued independent living. Better integration between housing and health required for long-term goals to be met. #Keepspni
Successful and engaging NICILL Independent Living Conference with collaborative insights from NIHE, Supporting People and all the NI Housing Associations gathered together to help change perceptions in relation to redefining sheltered housing as Independent Living in Later Life.
@CommunitiesNI makes the point this morning at #CIHAllIrelandSummit that #SupportingPeople funding “must be viable for service providers”. We are at the viability brink now. Urgent action on sustainable funding for SP needs to be made without delay.
Sharon Burnett from @WomensAidNI speaking at #NIFHAHMC22 on the media disconnect between #domesticviolence and murder. Women’s Aid receives funding from #SupportingPeople, a valuable programme in need of an urgent funding uplifts to retain staff and pay rising costs.

To meet housing need for older people, we need to provide a comprehensive package of housing support to enable people to live independently at home in their later years. Invest now and take pressure of health services. @KeepSP_NI

Excellent article @NIFHAPatrick highlighting need for long term and adequate funding for SP. Policy of chipping away at core funding is short sighted and will ultimately mean an increased burden on the NHS #housingandhealth@nihecommunity @HCIL_Ireland https://t.co/1cH1i5fooP
@NIFHA@insidehousing@niexecutive There’s no doubt that #supportingpeople is underfunded for what it can achieve. Ringfenced budget has been valued but right now cost pressures have never been worse. Draft budget had 3-yr budget increase that cannot be accessed due to Stormont impasse. #keepspni
