Hitchens is a terrible apologist for the Kremlin:
‘Look carefully at that conflict over the past two years and you will notice the outcome, a change from a grinding land war into an increasingly costly and bloody exchange of missiles and drones, much of it deep in Russian territory’

“It’s inconceivable”, say some American friends and colleagues, to the idea of the Trump group not abiding by the outcome of the midterms or of the 2028 presidential election. We have to remind them how many things they thought were inconceivable but have already happened.

This is the irony. There were important messages coming from the new US administration; but they were lost in the hysterical reaction from European politicians and devalued by the rank hypocrisy of the messengers themselves.
