The Ugandan government’s continued persecution of political opposition figures, activists, and human rights defenders is a gross violation of fundamental rights and freedoms. The unjust detention of Dr. Kiiza Besigye, Eron Kiiza, Stella Nyanzi, and other political prisoners is a blatant abuse of power aimed at silencing dissent and crushing democratic expression.
The appalling conditions in which Dr. Besigye is being held—locked behind multiple doors in a dark corridor, confined to a cramped cell reminiscent of a maximum-security prison for terrorists—are inhumane and degrading. This treatment is not just an attack on his dignity but a clear signal that the Ugandan government is weaponizing detention facilities to intimidate and punish those who dare to challenge its rule.
Eron Kiiza, a fearless human rights lawyer, and Stella Nyanzi, a vocal critic of state oppression, are among many who have been targeted for speaking truth to power. Their imprisonment is a direct assault on the principles of justice, free speech, and democracy. It is unacceptable for any government to criminalize political opposition and human rights advocacy.
We unequivocally condemn these oppressive actions and call on the Ugandan government to:
1.Immediately and unconditionally release Dr. Kiiza Besigye, Eron Kiiza, Stella Nyanzi, and all other political prisoners.
2.End the targeted persecution of political opponents, activists, and human rights defenders.
3.Respect the rule of law, human rights, and democratic principles as enshrined in Uganda’s constitution and international agreements.
4.Ensure humane treatment of all detainees, in line with international human rights standards.
The international community, human rights organizations, and democratic governments must not remain silent. Strong action—including diplomatic pressure, sanctions on responsible officials, and public condemnation—is necessary to hold Uganda’s leadership accountable for these egregious violations.
We stand in solidarity with all those unjustly detained and urge Ugandans and the world to demand justice. The fight for freedom cannot be silenced.

@uganda_group An MP or leader should only have peace if their voting is congruent to the dominant position in their constituency. Localize! Localize! Localize the fight against corruption!
A good democracy is where elected representatives fear their bosses, THE CONSTITUENTS. An MP or leader should only have peace if their voting is congruent to the dominant position in their constituency.Localize! Localize the fight against graft!
