When we tragically lost eight Ghanaians in the helicopter crash, including two ministers, there were strong assurances that the fight against galamsey would be intensified. Yet beyond the initial statements, what has really changed?

If anything, the biggest change has been the decline in media coverage. When was the last time the government provided a comprehensive public update on the fight against illegal mining? One could easily assume the problem has disappeared, when in reality it has simply faded from the headlines. The next major environmental disaster will bring it back into public discussion.

The devastating floods in Accra will follow the same pattern. There will be public outrage, emergency meetings, directives, and promises of decisive action. Some short-term measures will be implemented. Then, as public attention shifts elsewhere, the urgency will fade until the next tragedy forces the issue back onto the national agenda.

This cycle of governing by crisis is one of our biggest governance challenges. We react to disasters instead of consistently managing the underlying risks. We announce interventions but rarely sustain the institutional focus, accountability, and follow-through needed to solve problems permanently.

Whether it is galamsey, flooding, power sector challenges, or road safety, the pattern is remarkably similar. The issue dominates the news after a tragedy, momentum builds briefly, then gradually dissipates before meaningful, lasting reforms are embedded.

Until we break that cycle and build institutions that focus on sustained implementation rather than episodic responses, many of the challenges Ghana has faced for decades will continue to resurface.

My problem is that, the houses they will set out to break for public approval will have no bearing on resolving the flooding. They will just go and inconvenience some 3 poor families and turn a blind eye to the rich people who secured permits in the actual waterways.

Happy to see people digging out tweets of the current government officials bashing THE NPP when it flooded in the past. Most of our leaders understand how much Ghanaians love to listen to good English and finesse them with that all the time. Hold your leaders accountable!

If he cannot proactively, as a president, ensure that his appointed officers regulate such basic things as the dumping of refuse, he should resign!

No president should make a habit of complaining to citizens when preventable wrongdoings are determined.

The government exists essentially to prevent the people from taking society into their own hands!

I have personally been a victim of flood. It cost me so much. I could identify the challenges in the area that caused the flood but they were completely beyond me. The assembly didn't care at all. It was just another opportunity to dip hands into relief funds meant for citizens.

Honestly, we can't let government get away with this flood issue. If you think the issue is attitudinal, you have laws, enforce them aggressively. But we all know it's just a quarter of the problem. Government must sit up. We must hold government accountable before we all perish

I hope Ghana gets to like the quarter final of the World Cup, so this guy can get more visibility.

Someone mentioned that they found him taking public transport in Ghana, someone had to dash him a car this year.

I hope a Saudi club can sign him. He’s 33, and the goalkeeper’s lifespan can last way longer, if he spends like 3-5 years in Saudi, at least he can recover a bit. A legend already in my books. Benjamin Asare.

Africa is everyone’s pawn.
Its citizens are gullible and heavily loyal to foreign nations.
Its leaders are less critical.

Elections have been reduced to rituals.
Citizenship is merely a badge.
Politicians are demi-gods worshipped by the masses.
Mediocrity is easily tolerated.

The education system is generally broken and is geared towards grade farming rather than.
Certificates are considered complete proof for epistemic authority.

Every nation has a bigger plan for its citizens, except the mushroom states in Africa. Ghana being a disappointing example.

It is all politics to offer themselves an extended period to continue to exercise political power.

Term limits exist so that a leader who demonstrates good performance ( even if projects aren't completed) can be given a second term.

Developed and advanced societies that had/have a four-year term have still succeeded.

You aren't developing, not because you don't have enough time to exercise political power. You aren't developing because you make poor decisions, policies, fail to enforce your laws, and are corrupt.

A gullible population will believe every lie the politician tells to justify the poor performance.
