@petitetweeter_ You’re not wrong but I think a lot of the shock in the UK media relates to it happening in a tertiary centre in the UK. The angle is that it’s ‘unread of’, namely something that you’d expect in the black market happening in well established trusts.

@dalilah_black Yeahh that makes sense, since they screen pregnant women too. Unfortunately though, kinda means the work is on us to get tested. Or you end up with cases where it’s only picked up during pregnancy etc by then, you’re already in a committed relationship

@dalilah_black I’d be lying if I said I knew 100%. However, newborn screening of SCD only started in the mid 2000s, so theoretically there’s a large amount of black people born pre 2005 who would’ve not had screening really and are probably getting diagnosed in adulthood
