Increased political pressure in Swiss cities aims at curbing the establishment of furnished temporary apartments. To stop the conversion of residential buildings into temp. accommodation, the city of Zurich passed a motion prohibiting temporarily rented homes as "residential."

Following complaints, the Zurich Administrative Court upheld this amendment to the building and zoning regulations. Additionally, effective January 1st, Lucerne introduced a minimum tenancy of 90 days for all short-term residences converted in the last 15 years.
