How old was Aisha when she married Muhammad?

Filmmaker Chris Burgard points to traditional Islamic hadith accounts that say Aisha was six when she was married to Muhammad and nine when the marriage was consummated. Lara notes that some Muslims she has spoken with dispute that account and argue Aisha was older.

Burgard says that dispute became a revealing moment during the making of his documentary, “Remember the Alamo: Don’t Sharia My Texas,” when he challenged Islamic scholar Aziz Budri over the historical sources and what they say about Aisha’s age.

The conversation goes beyond Aisha to questions about taqiyya, Sharia and the political dimensions of Islam. Burgard argues Americans need to examine the source material and understand what he describes as a “parallel society” with its own laws, institutions and cultural norms.

Lara pushes back at points, including on the significance of religious laws remaining unchanged over centuries, while drawing on her own experiences with imams, jihadists and terrorist organizations around the world.

By comparison, Mark is commonly dated to around 40 years after the public ministry of Jesus. That (in of itself) does not automatically make Mark accurate, but it places the Gospel within living memory, when sources could still be consulted and claims could still be challenged.
