🏄♀️Catching waves since 1959!
This week, @FoxBusiness is celebrating the small businesses that keep America moving. 🇺🇸
@KellySaberi takes us to Harbour Surfboards—the world's oldest surf shop—where they've been shaping boards for 67 years in Seal Beach. 🌊
No ticket? No problem!
World Cup fans who can’t make it to the stadium are heading to Cosm to experience its “shared reality” atmosphere.
@KellySaberi gives us a closer look:
CA RAIL DEADLOCK: Crews are rushing to wrap the mile-long Hanford Viaduct & lay tracks by year's end. But after a $4B federal funding axe, the project is under fire. Candidate Steve Hilton warns it "no longer matches what voters approved" & demands a total stop. @KellySaberi reports.
TECH TITANS: Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella testifies in Elon Musk's lawsuit against OpenAI, which alleges the company abandoned its nonprofit mission in favor of a multibillion-dollar partnership. @KellySaberi reports.
Elon Musk is taking the stand in his case against OpenAI. In opening statements this AM, his lawyer said he would gradually weaken the for-profit arm of the company, only using it for fundraising. OpenAI's core argument is that Musk desired a for-profit himself that he'd lead.
@MarketNote1@Varneyco Truck drivers have to take a break. The driver in my story Terance tells me he takes his normal break while it’s charging, like he would if he were driving his diesel truck for the last 25 years.
It takes about an hour to reach 95% battery.
Sec of @ENERGY Chris Wright is in Long Beach today visiting a Synergy oil field. Currently pumping just 100 barrels/day but they have the ability to do tens of thousands. He’s taking questions about their concerns with California’s energy policies+ supporting their families.
The verdict is in. Both Meta and YouTube have been found liable for both negligence and failure to warn in the social media addiction case in Los Angeles.
A New Mexico jury ruled against Meta deciding it must pay $375 mil in damages. AG Raul Torrez sued Meta following an undercover operation in which investigators created fake accounts posing as kids under 14. The state says Meta misled users about safety. Meta says it will appeal.
Spotted near downtown Los Angeles. For context my producer and I found out this Chevron is notorious for hiking up their prices about a dollar and a half more than the other guys — but still! — many people (tourists?) were paying for it.
Closing statements are today in the Meta, Google addiction trial. Plaintiff Kaley + her sister will attend. Lead attorney: "I will only have her in there for about an hour of it. I refuse to let her sit there while they trash her, trash her mom, trash her dad, trash your sister,"
Jurors finally hearing directly from plaintiff Kaley GM. Today is doubly significant as we expect to see posts from Kaley’s social media feeds. General examples of content cannot be used as evidence. Tech giants can't be sued for content, protected under Section 230 of CDA.
Meta announces a new safety rollout this AM, 17 days after opening statements in the trial against Instagram + YouTube over addictive design claims. It will soon alert parents enrolled in Instagram parental supervision features if kids repeatedly search suicide/self harm topics.
Zuckerberg has arrived to the landmark social media trial in LA. The verdict could cost Meta billions and potentially change social media as we know it.
As we wait for Mark Zuckerberg to arrive for testimony at Los Angeles Superior Court, a group of parents who blame social media for their kids’ deaths stand in solidarity together and with the parents who could not be here today. They became emotional as they broke away.
Instagram Head Adam Mosseri is on the stand as a trial against Meta + Google continues. It’s one of the first cases on the accusation that tech giants knowingly design addictive social media platforms that’s made it to this point. The effects of the verdict could be historic.
Awaiting @POTUS arrival here in Clive, Iowa as he continues his midterm campaigning tour. The President is expected to tout his new tax policies and lower prices here in Iowa. Chief of Staff Wiles says Trump will be visiting a new location weekly ahead of November.
