Does technology contribute to climate stress?
At our national climate convening, our panel session “Reframing Climate Leadership Through Technology” examined how technology can support climate action, from improving access to environmental information to helping communities respond to changing conditions. The conversation also highlighted the need to make these solutions accessible and ensure women, young people, and persons with disabilities have a meaningful role in shaping the decisions that affect their futures.
Niger Delta communities raise alarm over gas leaks, unexplained deaths.

Meet our speaker, Ken Henshaw @Ken_Henshaw.
For years, he has worked with communities in the Niger Delta on environmental justice, climate change and the impacts of pollution on livelihoods and wellbeing.
He’ll be joining us at DARE Conference 2026🥳
‘An environmental rights group, We The People (WTP), has called on the federal government and multinational oil companies operating in the Niger Delta to take urgent steps to end gas flaring in the region.’

In Egi community of the Niger Delta, residents are speaking out about the devastating health impacts of decades of oil & gas extraction. Parents describe children born weak, sickly, underweight, and battling persistent skin diseases. Infant mortality is rising. Blindness and fertility problems are becoming common. Even livestock reproduction is declining.
Community members also speak of constant headaches, extreme fatigue, high blood pressure that defies treatment, anxiety, and unusual deaths. For them, the link between these illnesses and years of oil extraction and gas flaring is undeniable.
For decades, #TotalEnergies has operated with impunity, forcing communities to live with polluted air, poisoned water, and environmental destruction. Today, as multinational oil companies divest from the Niger Delta, Egi residents are demanding accountability, remediation, and justice for the harms to their health by years of reckless extraction.
Oil extraction in the Niger Delta is not just an environmental crisis, it is also public health and human rights emergency.

At a time when the future of the Earth feels increasingly uncertain, when governments and businesses measure prosperity in how much of the Earth is extracted, exploited and erased, the work of healing the Earth has never been more needed.
Protecting the Earth goes beyond what we do on Earth Day, but what we do every day in between.
At We the People, we work with communities to restore mangroves destroyed by deforestation and oil spills. Every mangrove seed we nurture is an investment in the future of Mother Earth.
To celebrate this Earth Day, we're highlighting our restoration efforts in one of the most biodiverse frontline regions of the world.
Happy #EarthDay!

"Flaring Lives: The Human Cost of Methane Emissions in Nigeria’s Niger Delta" examines the human dimension of methane emissions in oil-producing communities, situating the ‘methane emergency’ not merely as a climate policy issue, but as a matter of public health, environmental justice, and community survival.

We spent all of last week at our annual strategy and planning Retreat.
We reflected, questioned our strategy, and debated new approaches.
In 2026, we focus on connecting communities, reshaping narratives, and demanding accountability.
At 178 locations across Nigeria's Niger Delta, gas flaring remains a potent threat to the health and livelihoods of millions of people.

We love the beautiful game of football!
But should we allow the same companies that are destroying the environment and poisoning people in the Niger Delta to sponsor football?
We think not

Fossil companies like ExxonMobil deliberately spin disinformation around climate change, including fake 'scientific' studies that deny the real causes of climate change.

Tomorrow it will be 5 years since the #LekkiTollGate shooting, which became the high point of the #EndSARS protest.
What became of the Panels of Inquiry across the states? What became of the petitions against erring police officers? Where are members of the rogue SARS units nationwide? How many of the five-for-five demands were implemented? What has changed in policing since #EndSARS?
We are excited to have 'Yemi Adamolekun of @EiENigeria lead the discussion!

Last week, we collaborated with our key partners, the Peoples' Health Tribunal, Health of Mother Earth Foundation and OilWatch Africa, to organise a high-powered gathering of Niger Delta activists and communities called the People’s Environmental Assembly. It was an assembly to take stock of the life-altering negative impacts of crude oil and gas extraction on the hashtag#NigerDelta and its people.
From hashtag#oilspills to routine hashtag#gasflaring and hashtag#blowouts, the hashtag#ecological and health impacts have been devastating. They include the fact that hashtag#lifeexpectancy in the region is much lower than the national average, standing at 41 years. People in the region are far more likely to have respiratory illnesses and cancers than elsewhere in the country. Women are more likely to have miscarriages and give birth to deformed babies. People in the region are more likely to ingest poisonous hashtag#hydrocarbons from their water sources and agricultural produce. These impacts of crude hashtag#oil and hashtag#gas extraction spanning over 70 years have significantly contributed to the underdevelopment of the Niger Delta.
Despite these notable and well-documented negative effects brought on the people and their environment, oil companies such as hashtag#Shell, hashtag#ExxonMobil, hashtag#Eni, hashtag#TotalEnergies, and hashtag#Chevron have seldom been held to account for the devastation inflicted upon the region. They have instead gone ahead to spin campaigns of calumny against the very same people they have violated. In consistent barrages of hashtag#disinformation, oil companies have turned around to blame the victims who suffer the impacts of their hashtag#ecocide for being responsible for the same damage. Riding on this fraudulent spin, these companies have all transferred their toxic assets to questionable 'indigenous' companies, who have continued the carnage with impunity.
The People’s Environmental Assembly is working to unite the victims of reckless hydrocarbon extraction and demand hashtag#accountability and hashtag#justice.
