@haskinsvadala@PpollingNumbers Your question contains false assumptions. The war began because of southern secession, not because the North wanted them to give up their slaves. Lincoln ran on a platform of not extending slavery, not an abolition platform. The South responded to his election with secession
@haskinsvadala@PpollingNumbers Saving the Union & defeating slavery was a moral perogative.
If you don’t understand why America had a civil war when other nations had peaceful abolition, read more.
Your bio’s quote is very true and I’m sure Lincoln shared the sentiment. Nevertheless, he did God’s work
@katepostin@Gandalf_thegayy@SuisizeMe If they stayed home then why are they here with him watching his puppet show, is what confuses me (not that anybody asked) but I guess this could take place at a later date or smth
@americanboi4U@MarketPlay1980@JohnCornyn Transatlantic slave trade ended in 1808 in the USA but yes to your sentiment, the triumph over slavery should be celebrated by all Americans
@DalejacksonSr2@MarketPlay1980@JohnCornyn As a white person I can say that emancipation and the triumph over slavery was a glorious moment in our country’s history and should in fact be celebrated by all Americans. I think those who disagree just don’t have a good understanding or appreciation of our history.
@JayJay156311@KillaKreww Listen I’m a can’t we all get along kinda guy but I faced plenty of race based hostility as a white person when I lived in Philadelphia. There are prejudiced individuals in every color
@nana00711553@theartiomboy Everyone at the gym does that here it’s insane. I shit you not someone came in the other day, socks, sneakers, sweatpants and sweatshirt. And people will have loud conversations or even take phone calls. It’s hell
@DerekPederson3 Our industrialized society has existed for hardly 200 years and you’re already calling things impossible? Do you think physics is solved? We literally don’t even know what most of the universe is made of
Something I like to do is open up the Wikipedia page for something like the Internet and read it from the point of view of someone from the 18th century
