Then David Cone went out and retired all 27 Montreal Expos in a 6-0 Yankees win, completing the 16th perfect game in MLB history.

Larsen had thrown the only perfect game in World Series history decades earlier.

Having that ceremony immediately precede another perfect game is the kind of baseball symmetry nobody could have planned.
